The surroundings
Things to do near Cortijo La Vega
Cortijo La Vega stands in a privileged spot in the interior of Málaga province. From the house you can reach some of the most remarkable landscapes and monumental complexes in Andalusia in a short time.
Antequera
Just 15 minutes away by car, Antequera is a monumental city that deserves a relaxed morning. Stroll through the old town, climb up to the castle and the collegiate church of Santa María la Mayor and enjoy the views over the plain. The city concentrates churches, convents and palaces, and is also famous for its food: the mollete antequerano, gazpachuelo and convent sweets. It is the perfect stop for shopping before reaching the house or for eating out one day of your stay.
El Torcal de Antequera
About 35 minutes away by car is El Torcal de Antequera, a karst landscape declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its rock formations, carved by erosion over millions of years, create an almost lunar landscape with signposted hiking routes of varying difficulty. We recommend comfortable footwear, water and visiting first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the summer heat. It is one of the best family plans near the house.
Caminito del Rey
The Caminito del Rey is one of the most spectacular routes in Spain and, from Cortijo La Vega, it is reached by a direct train from Bobadilla station in just 18 minutes. The route runs along walkways suspended on the cliffs of the Gaitanes gorge, more than a hundred metres high. Tickets must be booked in advance on the official website, especially in high season. Allow about three hours for the full visit, including the bus ride back to the starting point.
Lagunas de Campillos
About 25 minutes away by car, the Lagunas de Campillos nature reserve is a group of wetlands of great ecological value, ideal for bird watching, especially flamingos, coots and herons. There are several viewpoints and signposted routes around the lakes. It is a peaceful plan, perfect for the late afternoon and for nature lovers and photographers.
Dolmens of Antequera
The Antequera dolmen complex, also a World Heritage Site, is made up of the Menga, Viera and El Romeral dolmens. These are megalithic constructions over 5,000 years old, among the most impressive on the peninsula. Admission is free and the visit takes little time, so it combines well with a morning in Antequera or with the trip up to El Torcal. The visitor centre helps explain the meaning of these monuments.
